Why, Self, Why?

Why, self, why?

Why do you go all sappy in romantic books even though you dislike the people at school who date?

Why do you actually have to keep reading all the cute scenes in your favourite books?

Why is life not a book?

Why do things in books always work out?

Why do you actually seem to be in love with a number if characters from works of fiction?

Why are you actually starting to like the idea of…love?

Why is what your heart is saying not what your mind is saying?

Why, why, why, self, why?

Collaboration: Right Now tag

This is a sample of our daily conversation:

Anna: Eve [Apple], you can’t remember it. *snatches iPad away*
Apple (aka Eve): NAAAAAAAAAHG GIVE IT BACK *steals iPad back*
Anna: You know this is really painful? Can you move up?
Eve: MEH no! *moves up and snatches away the iPad*
Anna: Are we actually gonna do this?
Eve: Yes! Well, maybe actually not.

We have been trying to write a collaboration but as you may gather it is not working out that well. Well, Anna says it’s working out fine. Kind of. Anyway, we’re going to do a tag about stuff happening Right Now (capitalising every letter is important).

1. What are you doing right now?

Anna: Um…being awesome.

Eve: Writing up all our answers for this collab post (duh) and listening to Anna’s music.

2. Are you listening to anything right now?

Anna: The song Fallen by Imagine Dragons…

Eve: Ditto but I am also listening to my own beautiful voice. Oh, and Anna’s too.

Anna: So modest.

3. What are you wearing right now?

Anna: I am wearing a pair of super warm – oh, what do you call them? – pyjama socks? Whatever. I’m taking them off. I’m also wearing a pair of jeggings and a tunic top.

Eve: And I am also wearing jeggings, but I’m wearing a black and white jumper that I bought on a shopping trip with Anna.

4. Where are you right now?

Anna: In my bedroom that happens to be in my house. Who would have guessed?!?

Eve: I mean, Anna, who would have guessed you’re in your own house? Anyway, I am in Anna’s house, coincidentally in her room as well.

5. What are you feeling like right now?

Anna: Relaxed. And…a bit hyper from Eve’s chocolate crispies/Easter cupcake things.

Eve: Personally, I’m not feeling that relaxed. I’m more on the hyper side, to be honest. *laughs manically*

6. What are you thinking right now?

Anna: That this is a really weird collaboration. Eve, what are you doing…

Eve: I’m not really thinking anything. I’m thinking about doing the candle thing but not the candle thing.

7. If you could eat anything, what would you eat right now?

Anna: I’m not actually that hungry, but if I had to have something to eat/drink, I would have an ice-cream float with fizzy melon juice, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sprinkles and an umbrella. Oh, and more cream.

Eve: Wow, that sounds nice. Personally, I really feel like a stroopwaffel. It’s like two waffles sandwiched together with syrup inside.

8. What specific thing are you looking at right now?

Anna: I have an exquisite view of my wardrobe at the moment…

Eve: I am looking at Anna’s red scarf which is hanging on her mirror.

9. What colour best describes your mood right now?

Anna: A soft orangey colour, so quite cheerful but not completely insane (which makes a change).

Eve: I feel like lime green. If we’re allowed to have a pattern, my lime green has calmer purple and orange spots.

10. What is your favourite thing, obsession and/or hobby right now?

Anna: My favourite thing right now is my iPod classic which I love. I’m also currently obsessed with the book Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. My favourite hobby at the moment is blogging. I don’t know what else to say.

Eve: Can I say I introduced you to Throne of Glass? Anyway, I think I’m more obsessed than you. I’ve read it like six times. My favourite thing at the moment is probably Anna’s Totoro slippers (even though I gave them to her). I’m not sure about my favourite hobby – probably writing/blogging as well.

Now, we are tagging three people to do this tag. If you’re tagged then all you have to do is answer the ten questions and maybe tag some other people to do it.

Just My Little Musings

Thank you for reading this, we know we aren’t the sanest of people, but we had lots of fun doing this!

Here’s Anna’s blog-

Bye, Anna!! x

Would You Rather…?

Hello again, there! I kinda feel like you guys don’t really know that much about me, so today I’m doing some ‘Would you rather…?’ questions. Ok, I’m not too sure that they’ll help you learn an awful lot about me and my life (for some reason, I’m tempted to say ‘myself’ there. In italics. Anyway.), but they’re more the sort of thing that help you understand how I actually think. Plus, they’re fun. If you’re a blogger and are feeling the urge to do the same, please by all means go ahead and make this that wondrous thing they call a ‘tag‘!

Off with the ranting, on with the questions:

Would you rather be happy and poor or rich and miserable?

Starting with a philosophical-ish one, are we? I’m going to go for happy. A life without happiness isn’t life at all. I have a feeling I’m making an accidental quote there…

High-end or drugstore makeup?

I am a firm believer in drugstore cosmetics. Although I like to splash out every once in a while, I have a pretty tight budget!

Would you rather be invisible, or be able to fly?

Flying. Seriously, I really want to be able to fly. I once had a dream where I could fly and I was doing all sorts of heroic stuff etcetera, and then I woke up and realised I couldn’t actually fly. I was pretty disappointed.

Would you rather only be able to shout, or only be able to whisper?

That’s a hard one. Is singing excluded? No, self, don’t argue with yourself. It looks odd. Anyway, I’d probably rather whisper. I’m not a particularly shouty person, to be honest, although I’m not sure how I’d release my anger. Through hitting pillows, I guess?

Sweets (otherwise know as candy) or chocolate?

Strictly this isn’t a ‘would you rather?’ question, but that doesn’t mean I won’t answer it! I’d choose chocolate. I do love sweets, but just not as much as chocolate. Sometimes they just get, well, too…sweet. By the way, I do like dark chocolate. It’s the best type.

Would you rather lose your sight or your hearing?

I hope I don’t offend anyone here: this question is purely for the purpose of ‘would you rather?’. I’m not trying to annoy people deliberately.

Now I have my apology-slash-disclaimer done, on with the answer. I don’t really like the idea of losing my hearing at all; I love music more than I love art. So I’d lose my sight (again, please don’t be offended).

Would you rather be forgotten or hatefully remembered?

Um – well, it depends what I did that was so hateful. Actually answering the question, I think I’d choose ‘forgotten’. I wouldn’t be around to know, though, so I don’t mind too much about this one.

Well, that’s it for the questions! If you have any for me then be sure to comment or email me at j.applesmail@gmail.com. I’ve also just remembered I have a residential school trip at the end of next week so if anyone would like to be my first guest blogger I’d be super-grateful. Thank you to all my followers and readers for their support; I hope you all have an excellent start to next week!

Christmas Tag!

I picked this up from Polka Dots and Lipgloss and thought I’d give it a go. I haven’t actually ever done a tag before, so this was pretty exciting for me.

If you’re a blogger, then you’re tagged to do this, and if you’re not then please feel free to leave your answers in the comments box. Well, here goes!

Christmas decorations

1. Do you prefer a real Christmas tree or synthetic?
I love the smell of real Christmas trees, but we have three cats that just love to climb trees, so we had to get a synthetic one. I couldn’t bear to see all the leaves falling off a real one when they jumped on it…

2. You’re in a coffee shop, it’s December, what do you pick?
I know this is going to sound strange, but I’m not that much of a coffee drinker (shock, horror!). Instead, I get a super-deluxe-or-whatever-the-equivalent-is hot chocolate with cream. And marshmallows. And more cream.

3. Whats your favourite colour scheme for decorating the tree?
Colour scheme?! What colour scheme? We basically just put everything we have on the tree. I’m pretty sure we still have some Winnie the Pooh baubles in the bag.

4. Giving or receiving?
I feel pretty bad for saying this, but it’s probably equal. I love seeing the surprise on people’s faces when you give the, something, but, then again, I do also love getting that item at the top of my Christmas list. This applies to both giving and receiving: I love that crinkly feel and sound of wrapping paper.

5. To mince pie or not to?
There is no question to this. Mince pies forever! Christmas would not be the same without it.

6. What’s your traditional Sunday lunch?
One side of my family are peskitarians (they eat fish but not meat), and the other does eat meat, so we usually have a fish and then a stuffed turkey, plus (I’m struggling to remember, here) roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts, parsnips and the famed Christmas pudding. Mmm, I just love Christmas pudding.

7. Christmas day fashion
Usually pyjamas for a good amount of the time, and then a selection of clothes we have been given/loungewear.

8. What’s your favourite Christmas song?
Oh, this is so hard…probably ‘All I want for Christmas is You’. Or ‘Merry Xmas Everybody’.

9. What’s your favourite Christmas film?
It may be a bit childish, but I still like ‘Nativity!’. It’s hilarious.

10. Open presents before or after lunch?
Before. There’s no way I’d hold out until lunchtime!

Are you all feeling as Christmassy as I am? Let me know!

Is Beauty Really in the Eye of the Beholder?

We often hear the phrase ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’. It effectively means that beauty is what a person thinks is beauty; if you see something as beautiful, then it is.

But could you look into the mirror and honestly tell me that there was not one thing you would change about your appearance? Are you totally happy with who you are?

However much I do not like it, my own answer would be no. If I could then I would be skinnier, have a smaller nose, a thinner face – there are many things that I would change about myself if I got the chance.

Mirrored beauty

Why do we want to change these things, though? Why do we want to be ‘prettier’, ‘skinnier’ or ‘have a smaller nose’?    Why do we actually want these things?

To answer these questions, we need to think some more about what beauty actually is. Does beauty exist if there is no one there to see it? Of course, this question is very much a matter if opinion, and is not really that different from if I asked you ‘If a tree falls in a forest with no one there, does it make a sound?’.

In my view, I think there is a definite possibility that beauty can exist if no one sees it, but if there’s no one there to see it – does it make a difference if it’s beautiful or not?

I could also apply this question to daily life, and say that someone or something is not beautiful unless it is seen by someone else to be so. This, sadly, seems to be truer than ever at the moment, or at least to me. If it weren’t, then the beauty industry would not be so successful. We wouldn’t slather ourselves in makeup everyday because ‘everyone else is doing it, so I wont look pretty without it’ [*]. Because beauty isn’t just in the eye of the beholder anymore, is it? It’s also what the beholder has been told is beautiful. If all of us were brought up to believe being skinny is ‘ugly’, then, generations later, we would probably still believe that. ‘Beautiful’ is only a word; it only means what we want it to mean, because a word is just a sound attached to a meaning. If we are constantly told we are beautiful, then we come to believe that we are. flower

Another question to ask yourself is: ‘Would you rather have a beautiful appearance or a beautiful soul?’ A beautiful personality and soul is also important, too, because this is not so much skin-deep, and we change our personalities according to the choices we make or have made.

[*] I’m not trying to say that everyone is like this, or that makeup is always a bad thing because isn’t always, and it can be a great way of expressing yourself.

So what we need to do in this day is to stand in front of a mirror, see our flaws both inside and out but then see these flaws as what makes us beautiful, and remember that perfection isn’t flawless either.
