Update: School Trip

Even as you read this, I’ll probably be getting on a coach in the wee hours of the morning, as virtually every school trip starts.

I’m going on an adventure/teamwork/fun school trio for four days, leaving June 15th (Sunday) and arriving back late on the 18th (Wednesday). I don’t think I’ll be able to post while there but I’ll have loads of stuff to write about when I come back!

It’s raining right now; how about you?

Update: Exams, Exams, Exams

Schoolbooks

I’ve been spending the last week or so of my half term holiday revising for exams. It’s not fun. Anyway, the exams are in this coming week so I wanted to let you guys know that I might not be as active as usual for this reason.

Despite all of that doom and gloom, school does finish a little early on some days so you ever know, I might be able to get down some stuff. That’s what I’m hoping, anyway!

How about you? Do you have any exams coming up, or have you been doing any? If not, what are your experiences of exams? I hope you all have an amazing start to June – we’re halfway through the year, ahh!

Why, Self, Why?

image

Why, self, why?

Why do you go all sappy in romantic books even though you dislike the people at school who date?

Why do you actually have to keep reading all the cute scenes in your favourite books?

Why is life not a book?

Why do things in books always work out?

Why do you actually seem to be in love with a number if characters from works of fiction?

Why are you actually starting to like the idea of…love?

Why is what your heart is saying not what your mind is saying?

Why, why, why, self, why?

Update: Bank Holiday Weekend, Throne of Glass, Exams

Howdy again.

I just wanted to give you guys a shout out that I probably won’t be able to write my usual weekend post as I’m going away for the bank holiday weekend (well, it might not be bank holiday for some of you!). However, despite this piece of not very happy news, I am attending Celaena’a Throne of Glass birthday party (as you may have seen on the blog button right at the side) on Saturday and I am SUPER SUPER SUPER EXCITED!! I am in love with Throne of Glass at the moment – not just the book but the characters. They are fantastic. They live inside my head.

Anyway, I also have exams coming up in the near-ish future (GAH) so that might decrease my internet presence a bit more as well. And that is all for now.

Rain and Bad Weather Through the Window
Rain and Bad Weather Through the Window

I got soaked on the way back home because I left my umbrella at school. Is it raining where you are? If it’s nice weather, then I’m very jealous. You should come to the UK for a while and experience our lovely weather patterns (not).

Bye for now!

A Different Sort of Q & A…with Myself

So, hello people out there. This is going to be a Q and A session with my trusty mate Apple, who also happens to be myself (don’t argue). Apple has decided that you don’t really know much about her.

Talking about myself in the third person is horribly strange, you know that?

Two selves

Shush. Now, I shall be asking the questions. First up: what is your favourite word/s? Words are very good to define someone’s character by.

Um, not really. Although if they say they don’t have one, it is a bit of an indication. Anyway, my favourite words at the moment are ‘superfluous’, ‘deplore’, ‘personified’ and ‘ciliated epithelial cell’. I know that’s sort of weird, but they are all just so nice to say. Try it.

…okay. Moving swiftly onwards, what book did you last read, whether you liked it or not?

The last book I read was Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It was good, but not that good, It’s not my favourite book ever. Also, I’m noticing a word-related pattern here.

As I said before, words are important. Speaking of favourite books, what is your favourite book?

Ach, don’t ask me that. It’s too hard to decide.

You’ve piqued my interest. Choose a couple.

Fine: Throne of Glass, by Sarah J Maas. Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys. Blood Family by Anne Fine. Skin Deep by Laura Jarratt. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Howl’s Moving Castle by Diana Wynn Jones. Geek Girl by Holly Smale. Perhaps Slated, Memoirs of a Geisha and Shift. There’s too many to choose from.

You weren’t joking. That really was a long list.

Of course I wasn’t joking, you idiot!

This conversation makes nonsense. You’re me, and I’m you.

Don’t remind me of it. I’m the one that’s writing about myself about myself and all that conundrum stuff.

It reminds me of Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox. That was a very confusing book, when we read it. Also, what did you have for lunch?

Pitta  bread and hummus. And can we please not get started on Artemis Fowl? Not to mention the whole we/I/you thing. It’s just confuddling me (a beautiful word, that, even if it isn’t real).

Okay. But can we first mention your strange love for fonts?

No, but you mentioned it anyway. You can’t ask permission to mention something, because that in itself is mentioning the thing.

But I do have a strange love for fonts. Calisto MT and Californian FB are particularly nice to write in. I’ve been converted from Calibri. I shiver to think of writing in it. People don’t notice fonts and that kind of stuff, though, unless it’s in titles. Everyday writing fonts are not paid attention to. They should be. They’re beautiful.

This is only proving your strangeness.

Writing a Q & A with myself makes me seem strange? Wow. I amazed. That was sarcasm, by the way.

Shut up.

This conversation is dissolving into ridiculousness.

I know.

Let’s end it here, okay?

A Short Note on What Will be Forthcoming from my Blog

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll probably have noticed that I don’t blog about much in particular. I generally compile and regurgitate what other people have said about beauty. I occasionally come out with something original.

I’ve been feeling a bit like my blog is slowing down at the moment. So, from now on, I’m going to be trying to tell you something different from what everyone else is saying – what I’m saying. I want to tell you something different and I want to tell you what’s going on inside my head, because no one else but me can tell you that. I will be posting about beauty as well, but I’ll try and make it more interesting. I hope you guys are going to stick with me!

What I’ve Learnt Since October

I have learnt many things since October, a lot of which are, frankly, useless. No, I’m more specifically going to talk about what I have learnt since I started my blog!

  • I have discovered that I have a wierd way of writing which is half-formal and half-chatty. Unfortunately, I don’t actually mean a happy medium – I mean literally half-like-I’m-writing-and-essay and half-like-I’m-talking-to-my-friend-over-the-phone. I’m pretty sure it’s not just me being paranoid.
  • I have learnt that planning your next blog post during maths and/or the train ride is a good way to pass the time. Please don’t take this as an incentive to daydream during maths, because I’m not  very good role model in that respect.
  • This is similiar to my last thing-I’ve-learnt. I have learnt that blogging can give you an amazing, warm feeling, expecially when people read or communicate with you. It’s awesomely awesome. Even if this blog is not exactly buzzing with page-views, it still feels totally and all-the-way awesome.

  • I’m a drugstore makeup gal. I think I always knew it but never realised it.
  • I am now more knowledgable about the strange place you call the US than ever. I finally muddled my way through the grade system and I know vaguely what the dollar is worth. Ish.
  • I am more restricted than a lot of people in my spending. I know this sounds odd, but I think I should actually spend more.
  • I can spend hours on hours reading beauty blogs that have no particular relation to what makeup I’m buying or what makeup I have.
  • I have to scour the internet for opinions before buying anything.
  • Trying in vain to not sound like I’m selling myself and my blog to you, I love blogging. A lot. And, on that note, I think I’ll finish. Happy New Year, everyone!

Would You Rather…?

Hello again, there! I kinda feel like you guys don’t really know that much about me, so today I’m doing some ‘Would you rather…?’ questions. Ok, I’m not too sure that they’ll help you learn an awful lot about me and my life (for some reason, I’m tempted to say ‘myself’ there. In italics. Anyway.), but they’re more the sort of thing that help you understand how I actually think. Plus, they’re fun. If you’re a blogger and are feeling the urge to do the same, please by all means go ahead and make this that wondrous thing they call a ‘tag‘!

Off with the ranting, on with the questions:

Would you rather be happy and poor or rich and miserable?

Starting with a philosophical-ish one, are we? I’m going to go for happy. A life without happiness isn’t life at all. I have a feeling I’m making an accidental quote there…

High-end or drugstore makeup?

I am a firm believer in drugstore cosmetics. Although I like to splash out every once in a while, I have a pretty tight budget!

Would you rather be invisible, or be able to fly?

Flying. Seriously, I really want to be able to fly. I once had a dream where I could fly and I was doing all sorts of heroic stuff etcetera, and then I woke up and realised I couldn’t actually fly. I was pretty disappointed.

Would you rather only be able to shout, or only be able to whisper?

That’s a hard one. Is singing excluded? No, self, don’t argue with yourself. It looks odd. Anyway, I’d probably rather whisper. I’m not a particularly shouty person, to be honest, although I’m not sure how I’d release my anger. Through hitting pillows, I guess?

Sweets (otherwise know as candy) or chocolate?

Strictly this isn’t a ‘would you rather?’ question, but that doesn’t mean I won’t answer it! I’d choose chocolate. I do love sweets, but just not as much as chocolate. Sometimes they just get, well, too…sweet. By the way, I do like dark chocolate. It’s the best type.

chocolate bar

Would you rather lose your sight or your hearing?

I hope I don’t offend anyone here: this question is purely for the purpose of ‘would you rather?’. I’m not trying to annoy people deliberately.

Now I have my apology-slash-disclaimer done, on with the answer. I don’t really like the idea of losing my hearing at all; I love music more than I love art. So I’d lose my sight (again, please don’t be offended).

Would you rather be forgotten or hatefully remembered?

Um – well, it depends what I did that was so hateful. Actually answering the question, I think I’d choose ‘forgotten’. I wouldn’t be around to know, though, so I don’t mind too much about this one.

Well, that’s it for the questions! If you have any for me then be sure to comment or email me at j.applesmail@gmail.com. I’ve also just remembered I have a residential school trip at the end of next week so if anyone would like to be my first guest blogger I’d be super-grateful. Thank you to all my followers and readers for their support; I hope you all have an excellent start to next week!
