Hey everyone! Recently I’ve been quite into bullet journaling so I thought I’d talk about how my journal works and how it helps me.
I started journaling earlier this year, but that was in a blank page notebook so I found it more difficult to do some stuff! Mostly it was to do-lists, which is still what I use my journal for on a day-to-day basis, but I do have some other spreads I like to do as well. (Spreads is such a bullet journal buzzword haha, I have been watching too many videos.)
OKAY. Let’s get started. My current notebook is a Muji notebook that I got for my birthday in September; unlike my previous notebook it has the classic bullet journal dots which I find VERY useful. I started out with a key – which I admit has changed a little since some of my pens started running out – and then we have contents for important pages and a year plan. I didn’t use the year plan as it was too small so in 2018 I’m hoping to try something different like maybe a page for each month? I DON’T KNOW. But my 2017 Hamilton calendar is finally running out so I need to get something else.
At the start of every month I create a month page, which basically just has stuff that I track which is usually meditation and my Spanish vocab. Recently I’ve also added money which I’m liking so far as I sometimes forget how much money I’ve spent and then don’t know whether I can buy something.
At the start of the week I put a little thing to track my music practice. (Which I actually forgot to take a picture of, oops.) My style of writing the days has changed a bit, especially since my first bullet journal, but my daily lists have remained essentially the same; I just write the day and jot down all my lists using the colour categories. Sometimes I add subtasks for big things I have to do such as multi-part homeworks.
More recently I’ve started using stickers and washi tape to decorate and make a little scrapbook page for each month with photos. I have a bunch of craft stuff lying around my house from when I was younger and I thought it would be good to make use of it. 🙂 I always feel sad that I don’t have physical printouts of photos as I enjoy looking at old photos of my parents, so I thought it would be nice to look back on in the future!
I just LOVE looking at videos of people’s bullet journals and stationery. I can’t overstate how much joy it brings me. Whenever I want to add a new feature or change up a style, I just go online and copy something from someone else, for example the banner I did for my half term to-do list. (I like arty things. But I am not very good at, like, NEAT arty things. Or really any neat drawing. Thus: I prefer to use something else as a reference.)
PLUS, I bought some of these super cute cat page markers which I love so much! I just adore anything related to cats, to be honest.
I find that my bullet journal really helps me to organise my thoughts and what I have to do – which is usually a lot of things – and I find it relaxing to make pretty scrapbook-like pages. 🙂
Omg! Your journal is so cute!! My journal is quite small so when I finish it I’m going to try to get a bigger one with proper dots in it – having blank pages is hard as you have to measure everything out 😂 I love stationery so much – I just bought some pastel zebra mildliners and I’m so excited for them to arrive!
Aah thank you Em! Yeah it’s a lot easier since I finished my blank journal (much as I loved it)… I do love Muji if you’re looking for any hehe. OMG they sound amazing!! ❤ ME TOO stationery is the best!
Yeah it does sounds easier! Oooh I’ll remember that. Yesss they are!! 😍
Aww yours is so pretty! I tried bullet journaling but it wound up being a lot of “To-Do” lists 😂😂
Aw thank you! Honestly mine is too, I just write it out in pretty colours haha
OH THIS IS SO ADORABLE. I’ve been thinking about making a bujo post recently; I’ve gotten way more into it the past couple of months and love it a lot. I love that you have a page for photos & stuff, that’s really cool!! And the little doodles on top of your Japan page are so adorable, oh my goodness.
Aah thank you! If you do then I’d love to see it — looking at other people’s journals is SO FUN for me. ❤ Ooh thanks so much but I think that's actually washi tape, I wish I could claim it for my own haha.
It looks so good! I have never made a bullet journal, but I really want to! Have you seen the videos on youtube? There are some intense but insanely beautiful ones!
Thanks so much! Yeah, I look at videos often for inspiration — there are just so many incredible ones, right?!? 😀
Loving your bullet journal it’s super colourful and bright! I also have one which is almost full. What do you prefer using – washi tape or stickers? I don’t think I could live without washi tape. Would you mind checking out my page? I have a few posts on my bullet journal as well as on things from recipes to travel! Thank you 🙂 xx
Thanks so much! Oh wow that’s awesome; my current one is only half finished. Hmm, I love them both but I think I’d say washi tape since it really makes me feel like I’m making a scrapbook and I love that.
I will do now! I try my best to reply to all the comments I get anyway. 🙂
