March Favourites!

I’m pretty sure I say this every single time, but I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S APRIL ALREADY AAH! (I’m counting down the days to ACOTAR, guys. I really am.)

march favourites

1. Twitter This was the month I got Twitter. (And also revived my Tumblr, if you’re interested.) I think it’s probably my favourite social networking site so far of the ones I’ve tried – I’m definitely going to be trying to keep up with it. (Maybe that’s not a good thing, though…?)

2. The Bone Season & The Mime Order by Samantha Shannon LONDON. CRIME. MAGIC. MORE FUN THINGS. Yeah, both of these were fun. They had their flaws, but I still devoured them – they kind of reminded me of a more British and magical Red Rising?

3. Half Wild by Sally Green One word: GABRIEL. Annalise is a boring and flat character, okay? It kind of sucked that a lot of the book was about finding her. But hopefully that’ll change. It was still a very pleasing read.

4. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya I am a crazy Studio Ghibli fan, okay? The. Best. Princess Kaguya was no exception, with SUCH A BEAUTIFUL (but also kind of sad) STORY and CHARACTERS and FREAKING LOOK AT THE ART

5. Spotify I love 8tracks, I really do, but sometimes it’s nice to be able to see the songs you’re playing and shuffle them and the like. (It probably helps that against all the odds, Spotify has an app for my miserably lonely phone.)

6. Princess Princess by Strangely Katie This webcomic was recommended to me by the wonderful Evie @ Where Books Never End and OH MY GOSH IT WAS ADORABLE. It’s like the cutest kick-ass princess story ever, drawn in the Hello Kitty colour palette. GO READ IT NOW OKAY.

7. More Than This by Patrick Ness I first read this around a year ago and had mixed feelings. I re-read it for Carnegie Shadowing and WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW OKAY. The IDEAS. The WRITING. (Third person present tense. Frikkin’ hard to pull off, I’m telling you.) Also, I felt like it was a little bit similar to my current WIP so I spent a lot of time observing how Seth basically interacted with like 5 characters throughout the entire book. Yeah, so I liked it.

Stuff from around the internet

My most viewed posts this month were Poetry: Lady of the Lake, I’m Scared of Being a Teenager and My Hero Monday: Nimona.
I wrote a disgustingly fluffy Simon Snow fanfiction instead of planning my Camp NaNo.
Books, Tea and a Onesie turned one!
Alyssa @ The Devil Orders Takeout talked about theΒ awesomeness of print books. (And also got a site makeover!)
I joined the team for Big Book Project. Watch out for its launch on good Friday!
#VeryRealisticYA, created by John Hansen over at Teens Can Write Too went viral. (You only need to have a quick browse of the tweets to see its genius!)

Bookish things that have happened

The Paper Towns trailer was released.
The TMI TV show rumours were debunked, and it’s been announced that it will air on ABC family.
It was World Book Day!
Half Bad by Sally Green won the Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize.
The Carnegie Medal 2015 shortlist was released.

Phew, March has been an action-packed month! Posts might become more scarce in the next month or so, as I’m taking Camp NaNoWriMo, but never fear – I’m not abandoning you! You can still always contact me on my Camp account as Taile, or tweet me on the shiny new Twitter at @appletaile.

How was your month? Have you read any of these books? Are you a Studio Ghibli fan too? πŸ™‚

  1. Have I mentioned I really love the pictures at the beginning of your monthly recap posts? It’s great πŸ˜€ And welcome to Twitter! Personally, I’ve also found Twitter is the easiest SM tool, at least for writers/bloggers like myself. Tumblr is loads of fun but too time-consuming, and Goodreads is good for record-keeping but less interactive. Although the most effective tool is of course blogging *pats your blog* πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you, I have a lot of fun making them! πŸ˜›
Yeah, I think I’d agree – though I really like Tumblr, I CANNOT MAKE MY ONE LOOK PLEASING TO THE EYE so it kind of annoys me. Yeah. *looks back at strong caps and feels a little awkward*
I tried out Instagram for a while, but it felt like a really big fight for followers. Twitter is definitely my favourite so far. (Apart from blogging, of course! πŸ˜€ )

  2. Oooh, I’ll half (hehehe) to read Half Wild soon! The Tale of the Princess Kaguya- *adds another movie to Studio Ghibli to be watched list* πŸ˜€ Spotify is awesome, it’s my go-to writing music source. PRINCESS PRINCESS YES THAT WEBCOMIC IS THE MOST ADORABLE THING EVER EVERYONE GO READ IT.

    1. Studio Ghibli is the best! πŸ™‚ (Their two recent films have been quite sad, though. Doesn’t exactly make for happy viewing?)

  3. Oh I need to see Princess Kaguya! But then again there are still a lot of Ghibli films I need to see! That Totoro gif kind of hypnotized me haha. I stared at it for a good while before I continued reading

    1. “You are feeling sleeeepyy….” (I kind of see what you mean now. I just went to look at my post and…)
Studio Ghibli are awesome! There are still a couple I haven’t seen, but a while ago a whole lot were broadcasted on TV so that’s where I got a lot of them πŸ˜›

  4. Another Studio Ghibli fan! HORRAY! They are my favorite animation studio! Totoro and Porco Rosso and Arrietty and Ponyo—really, outside of Pom Poko, I really like them all! I still need to see the new one tho! πŸ˜€

    1. YAY, Studio Ghibli! *high fives* I haven’t actually seen Pom Poko, but my friend did and said it was a little odd so I’m not too sure. :/
Porco Rosso is just hilarious. Crazy, but also hilarious πŸ˜› AAH so much Studio Ghibli love! I could flail about them all day! πŸ™‚

  5. Ohhh good luck with Camp!! I HOPE YOU ARE ROASTING MARSHMALLOWS AND HAVING FUN. Um. Virtual marshmallows?! XD hehe. Ohhh, Half Wild was so incredible, but yeah…I’m with you about Annalise. I mean, I don’t hate her, but she is kind of flat and boring compared to the BEAUTIFULNESS THAT IS GABRIEL. *ships quietly*
    Also that art is gorgeous.
Also I love Patrick Ness and I LOVE 3rd person/present tense. It’s my favourite way to write. xD
Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. Thank you! And I am having delicious virtual marshmallows. (Maybe slightly burnt, but those are the best ones.)
SO INCREDIBLE and Gabriel! I’m basically just agreeing on all points here πŸ˜›
I read a book some time ago with third person/present tense, and I think that put me off. I’ve read some gorgeous books and pieces like that now, so I’ve definitely come round to it. πŸ™‚

  6. I discovered Princess Kaguya recently and it’s so good!!! All of the artwork is beautiful. I was not expecting the ending at all.

By the way, I just discovered your blog, and it’s great. πŸ™‚

    1. I know, it’s like the entire film is a work of art. ❀ I've got to admit that I actually have a picture book of the myth so I sort of knew what was coming, but the ending was still so sad.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy reading! πŸ™‚

  7. Studio Ghibli πŸ˜€ I just watched the Wind Rises and adored it – the graphics are so beautiful. Sorry slightly out of the blue comment, but I just found your blog. I’ve wanted to read More Than This for a while but will definitely check it out now πŸ™‚

    1. Yes, the entire film is a piece of art as well as telling a story. πŸ™‚
No worries! Hehe, it’s always nice to meet new people. πŸ™‚ (And MORE THAN THIS AAH!)

  8. I am a huge Ghibli fan as well I am slowly collecting all the DVD’s. My favorite is Howl’s Moving Castle or Kiki’s Delivery Service it switches depending on the moment =) Your images on your blog are amazing by the way. Graphics make posts more fun to read!

    1. Ghibli is amazing! It’s so hard to choose favourites…all of them are just such great movies. Jiji is hilarious in Kiki’s Delivery Service.
And thank you so much! It makes me really happy that you liked them. πŸ™‚
